Experience, Experience, Experience

For the past 2½ months, the DMAs (Digital Media Associates) have been thrust into the digital space. We have needed to trust our gut, jump right in, and own it. We have been working diligently to be the best that we can be for the best company, Cox Media Group. But, amidst all of the hard work, we have had the pleasure of having some amazing experiences. Each one of us have been able to form relationships, go outside of our comfort zone, and explore our surroundings. Take a look…

“I’m in Houston, TX! The reports about the heat are real. There is no exaggeration. However, I love it! Houston is the 4th largest city in the country, which means a lot of diversity. I work in country radio supporting the account executives in sales with graphics and multimedia projects. My managers and coworkers are so friendly and open to letting me express myself and contribute to meaningful projects that better CMG Houston as a whole. I have redesigned our sales presentations and will serve as the point person for our new sales presentation software. They encourage leadership and a proactive spirit and that’s just what I need. Not to mention, I get to attend cool events and meet up and coming country artists all the time! I love Houston!”

“Being able to work at CMG Corporate has been a wonderful opportunity. In this building, you have access to the top leaders of the company. You’re able to see the growth of the company throughout the nation from a birds-eye point of view. The best thing about working at CMG headquarters is that the people in my organization value my talents and choose to utilize them to their advantage. Recently I was brought in on a project by the Digital & Strategy leadership team. I felt so honored that they thought of me as someone who could help them reach their desired end-product. They have given me the chance to make myself stand out in the spotlight, an opportunity I doubt I would get anywhere else. I am very excited for what is to come with my career at CMG. It has started out great and it can only get better.”

“WSOC-TV Channel 9 is the ABC affiliate in Charlotte, NC.  One unique fact about our station is that there are no other CMG affiliates in the city.  Some cities have Cox Media Group owned TV, radio and newspaper, but CMG Charlotte is only a TV property.  This leads the company atmosphere to be very unified and team driven.  An example is an event that we hosted this year.  Each year, the community votes on 22 high school football players to be highlighted on our station’s weekly “High School Football Extra” show.   We hold an annual media day where we get still photos, action video, and interviews for all 22 players.  As you can imagine, this is an all-hands-on-deck event.   Employees from every department worked the event.   I had the opportunity to speak to people who I would normally not have a chance to interact with on a daily basis.  Everyone was very supportive and connected with each other and the families that attended the media day.  It was a great experience.”

“After being at WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia for a while now, I’ve really been able to get my feet wet with all of the inner workings of the station. But, I think for me, the most invaluable experience I’ve had is having the opportunity to mesh with my co-workers outside of the office. WSB-TV has and has had a co-ed softball team for over 40 years. I have played sports all of my life, and the very first day of the job, I was asked if I would like to participate on the team. I was thrilled! I immediately said yes, and loved every minute of it. I met people in sales, news, camera operators, promotions, and more! Because of that, I was able to form deeper relationships that stretch beyond the numbers and news. WSB-TV encourages relationships and networking, and I have been able to show my own passion for that. You can do more than you ever thought you could as part of this Digital Talent Program.”
