My first two months in the Digital Talent have come to a close. I have a unique position here at WSB-TV in Atlanta, Ga., because I get to experience three different departments.
My first rotation has been in Social Media, which includes Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, & Vine. The position allows me to connect on-air talent to social networks. I also get to build my own personal brand while solidifying and growing WSB’s brand.
Needless to say, I have always been a very active consumer of social media, but tended to say in the background slightly as far as producing. In my role with WSB-TV, I was thrust into the exciting, EXHILARATING world of local news & television. Everything is extremely fast-paced, and there’s hardly any down time. Being a part of this team has been extremely rewarding. My first weekend after I started in Social Media, I was assigned to live tweet during the NBA Finals. Anyone who knows me realizes that I live and breathe sports. Basically this opportunity was HUGE and allowed me to exercise two of my passions but also do a great job for WSB-TV. Recently, I was assigned another huge project that will help promote WSB’s brand and loyalty among consumers: Friday Night High School Football. It is going to be a big commitment, one that I can’t wait for!
I just began my second rotation with the Sales Department on Monday. It has already been a whirlwind! It’s been a change from Social Media, but an equally fun and exciting department from what I have experienced!
I’ll leave you with a quote I heard this morning and loved: “Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
